Hey there. Thank you for coming here and reading! Please feel free to come and go as you please, with no strings attached.

Tags: With fanfiction, I will do my best to make sure that entries are tagged with the name of the fandom, the characters, and perhaps the pairings. Since much of my inspiration is coming from bingo games these days (such as Kink Bingo), I will also try to tag the entries with the kinks or prompts.

AO3: I have ported all the stories that didn't massively suck to AO3, so if you just want to skip the song and dance and get to the stuff I think is not totally appalling, click here.

Content notes: I will do my best to account for content that may be offensive or triggery, such as:
  • people under the age of 18 human years (or equivalent) in sexual or kinky situations
  • nonconsensual or dubiously consensual sex or kink
  • incest
  • self-harm or suicide
If you don't see content notes, then the story should not contain any of those sorts of situations.

Ratings: I am not going to put warnings for smut. I will tag entries with a PG tag if I feel that they are entries that are not overtly sexual. That way, folks who don't feel like reading smut will have a handy tag to click on for things to read. Please don't read anything more into 'PG' than that. Some PG entries will have language in them, or deal with themes that aren't necessarily kiddie stuff. I'm not interested in trying to police or account for every possible sort of content; basically, you can assume that entries are either intended to be smutty, or not, and go from there.

Feedback: When I leave feedback for people, I admit that I tend to be in the asspats-and-cuddles variety. I really am a huge believer in constructive criticism, but I always feel weird about critiquing someone's writing, if they haven't specifically requested it of me, or if it's my first time ever interacting with them. That being said, if I compliment your writing, I genuinely mean it.

As far as receiving feedback goes, I will do my best to take any comments into consideration. I do want to become a better writer. So, please, if you are moved to do so, critique away. Asspats and cuddles, however, will always be gladly accepted. ;)

Transformative works policy: Please feel free to play with my stuff and create pretty things from it. All I ask is that your work be non-commercial in nature, that you give me credit, and that you give me a link to your finished project so I can see how creative you are. :)

I'm just gonna drop this here

A random table to brainstorm plotz for an RPG.

All sacrificed for passion Loss of loved ones Conflict with a god An enemy loved Ambition
Slaying of kin unrecognized Rivalry of superior vs. inferior Self-sacrifice for kin Obtaining Involuntary crimes of love
Mistaken jealousy Enmity of kin FREE SPACE Discovery of the dishonour of a loved one Obstacles to love
Remorse Fatal imprudence Pursuit Murderous adultery Crimes of love
Adultery Rivalry of kin Madness Supplication Revolt

Ha, it's occurred to me maybe I should provide a link to some definitions of what's in those squares. Here.

Snowflake Challenge #5

In your own space, talk about a creator. Show us why you think they are amazing.

I don't know why I'm even attempting this when I can't put much more praise together than 'It's really good *smiley face*', but goddammit, I shall forge ahead.

First up is Parhelion. I first discovered Just Another Evening at Home with Evil Manifest. And I think what I love the most about it, other than the fact that it contains sauce and cheeky and bickering and cheerful menace, is the fact that it is from something I have never heard of, with characters I'm not familiar with, and yet I could soak myself in it and understand it ever so easily from the first word onward. That tends to be hard for me, and I don't know whether it's because I'm especially obtuse or just is.

Then you can read a fic like Collared and experience yet more writing that is accessible and straight-forward (for lack of a better term) and yet so incredibly detailed. Like, the way they describe the collar coming off -- wonderful details, all contributing to the flow of the story. You'd think that detail would be an easy thing to do if you're into it, but sometimes it's just not, sometimes you find yourself just plumping up the word count with it as you write around in circles. They don't have this problem. (At least, not in the finished work. :D ) And then there is the understanding of history. My little heart, which holds a B.A. in history, loves them for this.

The other author I'd like to briefly celebrate is kindkit. You want fics in mainstream fandoms? He does Doctor Who and Harry Potter and X-Men. Have a hankering for something based on the epic of Gilgamesh, do you? He can help with that. He even wrote an Arthur/Uther fic that is just as lovely as everything else.

I'm just going to throw some more out here:
Shoes For His Feet
The Undone Years

I think I like his stories so much because there is just such an elegant sadness to these, an understanding of aching and loneliness and want and mortality, of scars and flaws and vulnerability. They are like little memento moris for love.

I'm going to flail and start crying if I keep at it, so I'll leave it at that.

Snowflake Challenge #4

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them. Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!"

I posted a comment on someone's podfic, thanked someone for sharing links to a really cool artist, perhaps rather foolishly sorta-kinda volunteered to be a co/beta (because I want to write things again, but OMG SO TIRED ATM), and gave love on a Day 8 thread. And now I shall retreat behind this ivy-covered tree again. *plays at being ninjas with Merlin*

Snowflake Challenge #3

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser-known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom who maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.

Abandon by stories(afinch) (no fandom, gen) Brief and sad, with a pointed message thrown in.

...And All Things Will End by Saturnyn (Norse mythology, M/M, R) I like how the first couple of paragraphs look like verses from the Voluspa.

accustom me to joy by Morbane (Germanic mythology, gen) Likewise, I like the use of alliteration in this one.

So, I like stories that are succinct, that have something to say, that are technically elegant, that are poignant and sad and full of feels. Bonus points if everyone dies.

I also like silly things.

Curs'd Crustaceans by unhurt (Deadliest Catch, Sig and Edgar Hansen, PG) ...really fucking silly things. Also, terrified Edgar.

Snowflake Challenge #2

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.

I am going to be a dirty dirty cheater girl and promote slightly more than three. Ha.

A Shot Of Colin There are of course many sites that have pictures of Colin Morgan on them, but this is the one that I check damn near every day. You just never know what is going to show up next, and that gives it the air of being on a treasure hunt. Then there the excitement when everyone squees over a particularly good snapshot or a new development in his career, and it's lovely. The person who runs it seems to be a very lovely, respectful person as well, which is always a plus.

A Year's Bill Of Fare A blog about a daily menu from a 19th century cookbook. I love things like this, seeing what people ate/actually wanted to eat at various points in time. Admittedly I have not been keeping up with it much, and I mostly want to put it here to bookmark it for later. *selfish*

The Mid-Century Menu Something similar, only for mid-20th century food. That is a brave, brave woman.

Gode Cookery And this is for medieval food. They also have an AMAZING amount of woodcuts and illuminations. Beautiful beautiful art.

Lastly, This community focuses on perfume from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, which is how I initially got into wearing (and loving) perfume. One caveat is that I haven't had the money or mental energy to buy any perfume for the past year and a half, and so I just kind of bowed out and haven't been hanging out there anymore. But when I was there, they had all kinds of reviews and perfume recommendations and squeeing over other things like soap and books and gardening, and there was a Walking Dead thread that I loved reading/posting in. It was my one-stop shopping for hanging out, for a long time. Every now and then I consider going there and just poking around for the occasional perfume swap or maybe even someone who likes fanfiction, but I haven't gotten around to it, yet.

And those are the types of things that I consider fun/interesting.

Snowflake Challenge #1

So, yeah. I think I am going to change tack a little and perhaps post a bit more personal stuff here, just because I feel weird enjoying reading about other people and not sharing, myself. It's just that when my life is not being depressingly stressful, it's just really dull, so...yeah. Not gripping. Also, I really suck at responding to people and keeping up with things, sometimes. Fair warning.

But anyway, I think I will try Snowflake Challenge because it's short and low-maintanence and may actually help me to reach out better to people.

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

Hmm, well, number one would be Pray You, Love, Remember. (Merlin, Merlin/Gwen/Gaius, PG) It's my firstborn, so it will probably always be my favorite. It was my way of dealing with maybe the most clumsy awkward botched way of ending a series ever, and was cheaper than therapy. When I first wrote it, I was of course focusing on Merlin, but when I re-read it now I focus a little more on Gwen, too, and how she really kind of got a raw deal the whole time, including the end, and then I hope that at least my story helped make things a little better for her, too. Also, Gaius. <3

As far as things people won't see as much, I like Caturnalia. (Cats On The Internet, Lil BUB/Grumpy Cat, G) I will tell you right now, if I am not staring at pictures of Colin Morgan, I am staring at pictures of cats on the internet, and these are my two most favorite cats in the world (well, after my own cat, but he doesn't do internet). It's silly, which is nice, because my writing is usually so SRS BSNS and ponderous and this is just light and goofy and dumb. And I like the title.

Now, as much as I want to play it safe and just recommend innocuous things, I think I will put a porny one up for my third one. My current favorite in that category is Stick Shift. (Merlin, Merlin/Arthur, PORN) I like it because basically Merlin is being a huge dork who wants Arthur to read his mind...and then on top of it Merlin realizes that he's asking Arthur to do something that neither of them really has any idea how to do and they have to figure it out and there is much mental flailing on Merlin's part and OMG I heart them both so much. So even though, as I said, I write with all the grace of a battleship trying to turn a hairpin corner, I giggle inside every time I read it. And then I need to go spend time alone in my bunk. This pleases me. Also, I LOL at the title. Stick. Stiiiiiiick.

Anyway...this actually cheered me up quite a bit writing this. Yay! Hopefully I will have time to do Day 2 today, too.

2 Stories about Penance and Punishment

Fandoms: Avatar: The Last Airbender, Merlin

Summary/preview: I ran across these two stories as I was looking for fills for other rec lists, and decided that these would do really nicely for the theme of penance/punishment.

In one, we have a character who was one of the main antagonists of his series, who is coming to terms with his past deeds. He wishes that there was a way to get all of it out and done and over with. His wife tries to help with that.

In the other, we have a character who was one of the main heroes of her series, who hurt someone that she cared about while she was under a spell. As she sits in exile, she expresses her own hurt along with her remorse.
